Anne Forster is a Professor of Stroke Rehabilitation in the Academic Unit of Elderly Care and Rehabilitation, based at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and part of the University of Leeds. A physiotherapist, she has a long–standing interest in stroke and has undertaken a number of Cochrane Reviews, qualitative studies and randomised trials examining the effect of interventions to improve the longer–term outcome for patients and carers.
Interventions evaluated include: the effectiveness of home physiotherapy; provision of specialist nurse support for community–based patients and their families; and information/education provision in stroke unit settings. Anne was the chief investigator for two multi–centre trials in stroke rehabilitation: the TRACS trial (Training Caregivers after Stroke) and the LoTScare trial (Longer–term Outcomes after Stroke). She is leading a programme of work aimed at enhancing the longer–term outcomes for stroke survivors and their families. Anne is Clinical Lead for the Yorkshire Stroke Research Network.
