About Professor Margaret Cupples
Margaret was Professor of General Practice at Queen’s University Belfast, a GP in Woodbrooke Medical Practice, Belfast and co-lead of the NI Clinical Research Network’s Primary Care group until her recent retirement. She worked previously as a rural GP in Markethill, Co Armagh and has led many community-based research studies.
She is an active member of the UKCRC Centre of Excellence for Public Health Research in Northern Ireland, championing collaborative cross-sectoral and multi-disciplinary working, particularly in relation to chronic disease management and prevention, with a focus on lifestyle behaviour change. Her work has contributed to the development of new European Society of Cardiology guidelines that recognise the importance of combining population and individual level approaches for optimal cardiovascular disease prevention.
