That means over three quarters of children do not get 60 minutes of exercise each day. Even more worrying is the fact that 1 in 4 children here are classified as overweight or obese. You have the power to change this for your pupils and children and help prevent heart disease for future generations.

Habits started at an early age can last a life time. Good or bad. Evidence even shows that what a child eats in the first year of their life can affect their food preferences and habits in later life.
To encourage schools in Northern Ireland to get involved in more physical activity, we are launching the Well Schools Programme. Well Schools is based on the belief that prevention is better than a cure and that it is important to educate children so that they can make healthy choices as they grow up and avoid future illness.
