The family and friends of Peter King from Downpatrick recently organised a Golf Day in his memory which raised an amazing £6262.27 for NICHS! Over 280 golfers supported the event at St Patrick’s Golf Club, Downpatrick in a fitting tribute to Peter. Sincere thanks to all those who worked so hard to raise this fantastic amount and all the sponsors of the event for their generosity.
Katie Orr and her family from Banbridge recently presented NICHS with a cheque for an amazing £2881.82. Katie organised a 20 mile sponsored walk from Newry to Portadown in memory of her beloved Dad, Neal, raising this fantastic amount.
The family of Castlwellan man, Jim Fettes, recently held a quiz night in his memory. A fabulous £1030 was raised on the night, which was shared between NICHS and the Down Chinese Martial Arts Association. 2014 Armagh Rose of Tralee Nicola O’Hare recently presented Northern Ireland Chest Heart and Stroke with a cheque for £1,007. Nicola fundraised for the charity throughout her year as Armagh Rose, supported by the 2015 hopefuls including reigning Armagh Rose Emma Rose Murphy, raising this fantastic amount.
Barry Shanks from Derrytrasna in County Armagh recently presented Northern Ireland Chest Heart and Stroke with a cheque for £591.20. Barry ran the entire Belfast marathon dressed as Yoda, raising this fantastic amount.2
Elaine Lockhart from Bessbrook recently presented NICHS with a cheque for £723. Elaine participated in the Belfast marathon 8 mile walk in memory of her beloved husband, Alan, raising this fantastic amount.
NICHS recently presented our Tandragee Fundraising Group with certificates of recognition for their 21 years of service to the charity. The Group are retiring this year after raising in excess of £250,000 over the years, improving the lives of many local people living with chest, heart and stroke conditions. Our deepest thanks to all involved.
The Unite Community Group in Newry recently presented NICHS with over £2000 raised at their recent street collection. The money raised will be spent on stroke services in the Newry area so thank you so much to Unite and all the people of Newry who generously donated!
The amazing Mullin family from Omagh presented NICHS with a cheque for almost £9,000! The family entered the Omagh Half marathon in memory of their beloved Dad, Mickey, raising this fantastic amount.
Crumlin YFC present a cheque for £827 to Valerie Saunders at their recent Parents’ Evening. The money was raised by a collection on the evening and a ballot at the Club Dinner Dance. Thank you to everyone for your generosity.
Martin Campbell, representing Cloughfin Dancing Class recently presented Beth Vance and Barbara Weir at the Armagh Stroke Group with a cheque for £180.
Cathy recently presented NICHS with a cheque for £801 after kindly asking for donations instead of gifts for her 60th birthday party, raising this fantastic amount.
The Kelly family of Galbally, Co Tyrone held a family reunion and all made donations to NICHS. This resulted in an amazing £1050 being raised!
The Royal Hotel in Cookstown recently presented NICHS with a cheque for an amazing £5000! The Hotel held a number of events throughout the past year, including regular tea dances and their March Charity Ball raising this fantastic amount for the charity.
The family and friends of the late Margaret McKenna recently presented Northern Ireland Chest, Heart and Stroke with a cheque for £461, raised at a sponsored walk in her memory. The cheque was presented at Portadown Tesco, where Margaret worked and is fondly remembered by all her colleagues.
Staff at Mactex based at the Armagh Shopping Centre, recently presented NICHS with a cheque for an amazing £2750! Mactex held a very successful Christmas raffle and matched the proceeds with a very generous donation from the shop itself.
Mark McSherry, the Barber from English Street, Armagh recently presented NICHS with a cheque for £681.20, raised at his Boxing Night event in the Charlemont Arms. Mark raised a fantastic total of £3406, which was divided amongst five charities.
IMPACT Fitness held a ‘Muffin Top Challenge’ – series of fitness boot camps – throughout October in Lurgan, Lisburn and Banbridge, asking all participants to lose lbs and raise £’s for NICHS. The ladies presented NICHS with an amazing £1510 last week, with the Challenge Winner Helen O’Donnell also losing a fabulous 21 lbs! Thank you so much to IMPACT fitness for organising this fantastic fundraiser.
The McCusker family from Belleek, Co Fermanagh, recently presented Northern Ireland Chest, Heart and Stroke with a cheque for an amazing £2025. The family held a coffee morning and charity night in the Fiddlestone Bar, in memory of their beloved family member, Martin McCusker, raising this fantastic amount.
The Apprentice Boys of Derry Lurgan Number 1 branch recently presented NICHS with a cheque for £500, raised at their sponsored cycle in memory of their much loved friend, Mark Wing. Pictured are the ABOD with members of Mark’s family.
Tracey Gumley, from Greencastle, near Omagh, recently presented NICHS with a cheque for £3500. Tracey held a number of fundraising events during the St Patrick’s Day weekend – a sponsored walk, coffee morning and weekend of music and celebrations to raise this fabulous amount. This achievement is made even more remarkable due to the fact that the events were held almost a year to the day since Tracey – a young Mum of one – had a devastating stroke herself. After receiving support from NICHS, Tracey decided she wanted to give back – raising vital funds and awareness of stroke in young people. NICHS would like to say a heartfelt thank you to such an inspiring lady and to the local Greencastle community who supported her so fantastically.
NICHS’s Tandragee Fundraising Group presented the charity with a cheque for £5873.88. The monies were raised at various local events and collections throughout the year and the Group would like to thank all those who helped to raise this fantastic amount.
Northern Ireland Chest Heart & Stroke, the nominated charity of Fitness NI, received a cheque for £3,700 raised during the year by Fitness NI Branch members in Ballymena, Belfast and Newtownabbey. Valerie Saunders from NICHS and volunteer Linda Culbert receive the cheque from Fitness NI President June Rea and branch members.
Moyola Gun Dog Association held their annual Dog Trials at Cleggan Estate in Broughshane on Saturday 3rd May, raising £520 for NI Chest Heart & Stroke.
A BIG THANK–YOU to the Five Road Ends Tractor Run who raised £4,500.00!
The Five Road Ends Tractor Club annual run was held on 29th March. With over 100 entries the convey of tractors completed the circuit from Rasharkin, through Kilrea, Garvagh, Swatragh and Portglenone.
Entry fees, street collections en route and a successful ballot and auction held in the evening in Rafters Bar, Swatragh resulted in the grand sum of £4,500.00 being raised for NI Chest Heart & Stroke, this year’s chosen charity. A big thank to all the Club members, friends and family for their generosity and to everyone who kindly donated gifts to the auction and ballot.
The talented Groomsport Turnstones Community Drama Group presented the pantomime ‘Snow White’ in the Walter Nelson Hall in Groomsport with the four performances raising £1,000.00 for NICHS. Thank you to the writers, producer, cast and all stage hands who all committed to twice weekly rehearsals from the month of September in preparation for the pantomime.
Ruth Mulligan and her neighbours from Banbridge raised £1,680 with their Ballycross Cross Country horse riding event. Many thanks to the local community and all that came out to support the event despite terrible weather on the day!
Joan McPhilips, daughter of the late Bob Walker and her husband John present a cheque for £3,500.00 to Valerie Saunders of NI Chest Heart & Stroke raised at Cairndhu Golf Club. In memory of the late Bob Walker BEM, Cairndhu golf Club, Ballygalley organised a weekend of events in celebration of his life and contribution to the club. Bob Walker was one of Ireland’s top golf professionals and was the Professional at Cairndhu Golf Club for over 50 years. The weekend celebrations included a Grand Charity Bowls Match, Gala Dinner and Dance and a Charity Stableford Golf Competition. Also pictured is Derek Taylor, Club Captain.
Friends and family of Maggie McClenaghan from Belfast held a fundraising night in her memory in March this year. They asked for just £3.00 admission and raffled off several prizes and in doing so raised an amazing £1800 towards the work of NICHS.
The O’Kane School of Irish Dancing present NI Chest, Heart and Stroke with a cheque for £3000, raised at the recent Feis held in Killyclogher, Omagh. The event was held in conjunction with the O’Doherty family in memory of their good family friend Pat O’Doherty.
The Donnelly and Gormley families from Sixmilecross, Omagh, recently presented NICHS with a cheque for £600. Dominic Donnelly and Sean Gormley had held a joint birthday party for their 40th and 60th birthdays in Farley’s Bar, Beragh and kindly asked for donations to the charity instead of birthday gifts. Both they and NICHS wish to think everyone who donated and helped to raise this fantastic amount.
Blair Memorial Flute Band – Pride of Omagh recently held a church service and collection to celebrate their 40 year anniversary, raising an amazing £635 for Northern Ireland Chest Heart & Stroke.
Corrymeela FC hosted their annual tournament in aid of NICHS, raising almost £300 in memory of Gary Morris. The teams taking part at Threemilewater, Newtownabbey, were Corrymeela II, Carryduff II, Drumbo II and Queens Grads IV. Corrymeela FC would like to thank all the teams for taking part on the day.
The amazing Dougan family from Armagh recently presented NICHS with a cheque for over £7000! The family and their friends organised a climb of Slieve Donard in memory of their beloved husband and father, John, on the 20th anniversary of his passing, raising this fantastic amount.
Ivy and Harry Bradley recently presented NICHS with a cheque for £800. Ivy, who lives in Loughgall, Co Armagh, asked for donations instead of gifts at her recent 70th birthday party. The total amount raised was an amazing £1600, with £800 also donated towards cancer research.
The Galbally Vintage Tractor Club recently presented Northern Ireland Chest, Heart and Stroke with a cheque for £1205.83, raised at their latest Tractor Run in August 2015. The event has been held for many years and has raised close to £15,000 for the charity.
DARD’s first Campus to Campus to Campus Cycle took place in June with over 80 cyclists taking part. The event was organised by the Central Enforcement Team (CET) and the inaugural cycle raised an amazing £3.306.08 in memory of their colleague Nigel Clarke. Ann Lacey was very touched by the number of people who supported the event by taking to the saddle in memory of her late husband. Little Moss proudly started the cycle in memory of his late father Nigel.
Murloc Angling Centre in Aghalee, Co Armagh recently held a competition in aid of NICHS, raising a fabulous £400! Thank you so much to all those that competed on the day.
Rosie and Paul Creaney from Lurgan recently presented NICHS with a cheque for £603.51, raised during a sponsored 80 mile cycle in August 2015. Rosie and Paul, representing Apollo Cycling Club, took part in the cycle in memory of Rosie’s much loved father, Davy Lewsley, on the first anniversary of his passing. Rosie and Paul would like thank the members of Apollo Cycling Club who accompanied them on the cycle and all family and friends who donated to this fantastic total.
A huge thank you to Antrim Lions Club for raising a grand total of £9,000 through the May Ball and Chinese evening, earlier this year. The most recent cheque was presented at Antrim Lions Club Charter Night, by Lion President John Mooney to Kerry Anderson.

Richard & Diane McFadden from Moyarget recently celebrated their 25th Wedding Anniversary.
