Northern Ireland Chest Heart & Stroke
‘Taking Care’ Self Management Programme for Carers

Looking after someone you love or live with who has a chest, heart or stroke condition can be difficult, challenging and isolating;  people can really benefit from some support to cope.

We are now piloting a NEW “Taking Care” programme which is proven to help people manage their role as a carer and look after their loved one while looking after themselves.

We deliver this programme under a Licence from the world renowned Stanford University, and it builds on our almost 10 years of delivering self-management programmes locally to people with chest, heart and stroke conditions.   We are also the first organisation in the UK to offer this programme to carers.

The Programme is FREE of charge to all who attend.  It lasts 2.5 hours per week over 6 weeks.

Topics include:

  • Coping with difficult thoughts and emotions
  • Staying Healthy
  • How to get help
  • Future planning/legal issues
  • Working with Health and Social Care professionals
  • Relaxation

Vitally important is the chance to meet other people experiencing similar issues, meeting new friends and making new connections.

“Great to know someone is out there for both me and my husband……Life is good when you know someone is there for you” – Quotation from a recent customer satisfaction survey.
