80 Years of Making a Difference
On 14th June 1946, 16 volunteers gathered in a borrowed room in Belfast with a mission to tackle the tuberculosis crisis facing Northern Ireland. Eight decades later, that organisation has evolved into Northern Ireland Chest Heart & Stroke – Northern Ireland's leading local health charity. While much has changed since 1946, our purpose remains the same: helping people live well and live longer.

Where We Are Now
As we celebrate our past, we're also focused on the future. Our new strategy, Live Well Live Longer, sets out our vision for the next chapter of NICHS. Together with people with lived experience, volunteers, supporters and partners, we're working towards a Northern Ireland where everyone has the opportunity to live a longer, healthier life. Over the coming months we'll be sharing stories, memories, milestones and the impact your support has made possible over the last 80 years.
