To highlight the expert care and support available from Northern Ireland Chest Heart & Stroke (NICHS) to those at risk of, or currently living with, chest, heart and stroke conditions, rugby legends Tommy Bowe, Darren Cave, Chris Henry, and Craig Gilroy gathered to discuss the recent Rugby World Cup.

The event was supported by award winning developer Fraser Millar, the company behind the only Passivhaus certified residential housing development in Northern Ireland, Lancaster Park in South Belfast, and saw over 100 guests come together at Belfast’s Shu Restaurant to raise much needed monies for the local health charity.

Jackie Trainor, Director of Income Generation at NICHS, said, “We are absolutely thrilled at the total raised from our rugby legends lunch and would like to thank everyone who supported us and donated. A special thank you must also go to Fraser Millar for sponsoring the event and to Outwalker Whiskey for their generous support too.”

“Coronary heart disease is the biggest single cause of premature deaths, in people younger than 75, across Northern Ireland and everyday 16 people here have a heart attack.”

“The funds raised from this event will help support the expansion of our cardiac support services in line with our new strategy to help people across NI impacted by heart illness. Almost 90% of our income comes from public donations so fundraising efforts like this are vital for our charity and what we can achieve.”

The event also featured an auction which included tickets for upcoming Ireland rugby and Manchester United matches, a painting by Belfast-based artist Mu Changyan and a two-night stay at Lough Erne Resort. The event helped raise over £17,000 for NICHS.

Director David Millar said, “I’m delighted that Fraser Millar was able to support Northern Ireland Chest Heart & Stroke by sponsoring the rugby legends lunch. This charity is a very worthwhile cause, and on this occasion, we were delighted to combine our charity support with our passion for rugby.”
