They know first-hand what our clients living with chest, heart, and stroke conditions need to eat to stay well.
As the nights draw in, this apple and berry crumble is the perfect cosy autumn treat — warm from the oven, rustic, and full of fruity goodness to enjoy with family and friends.
Ingredients
Serves 4
50g wholemeal self-raising flour
50g porridge oats
25g bran flakes, crushed
50g margarine
50g soft brown sugar
Filling
3 large Granny Smith apples, peeled and thinly sliced
150g raspberries, blackberries, or blueberries (whatever you have or like)
25ml honey
1 tsp finely grated lemon zest
Method
Preheat oven to 180°C / Gas 4.
Crumble – Place the flour, oats, bran flakes, and sugar in a bowl. Add the margarine and rub into the dry ingredients to form crumbs.
Filling – Combine all the filling ingredients, mix well, and place in a 1.2-litre oven dish. Sprinkle the crumble on top.
Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until golden brown.
Serve warm with plain yoghurt
